The sun is shining, temperatures are rising, and the outdoors are calling! All year long, we’ve been gearing up for an exhilarating season, and there’s no better place to welcome the warm embrace of summer than right here in Statesboro. From outdoor concerts to aquatic adventures and everything in between, join us as we uncover some of the vibrant events and activities celebrating summertime in Statesboro.

Soak up the sun

The warm weather, sunshine and laid-back vibe of June and July are some of our favorite things  about a classic Statesboro summer. Residents and visitors alike take advantage of all the outdoor activities Statesboro has to offer throughout the season.

  • For those seeking a thrill, families can head to Statesboro’s very own waterpark, Splash in the Boro, to cool off with a dip in the wave pool, full-speed joyrides down the slides, a float in the lazy river and so much more.
  • Pick up a paddle and join the sport taking the world by storm! Whether you’ve yet to play your first pickleball match or you consider yourself a pickleball pro, this “tiny tennis” game makes for the perfect seasonal outdoor activity. The Bulloch County Recreation and Parks Department has six pickleball courts at the Sue Oertley Tennis Complex, more than enough space to accommodate you and your competition. The complex is the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon on the courts, honing your skills and having a blast.
  • The Georgia Southern Center for Wildlife Education with the Lamar Q. Ball, Jr. Raptor Center is the optimal destination for those looking to take a walk on the wild side this season. Now is the prime time to be outdoors and get up close and personal with the center’s natural wonders. The wildlife programs introduce visitors to various species of raptors, native and exotic reptile species, amphibians, local mammals and more.
  • Experience the electrifying atmosphere of a Tormenta FC soccer game, where the passion of fans and the thrill of competition converge. Cheer on players as they display their skills on the field amidst the roar of the crowd. Whether you’re a die-hard soccer enthusiast or a family looking for an exciting outing, attending a Tormenta FC game is a fantastic way to enjoy high-energy sportsmanship and community spirit.

Soundtrack of summer

Lay down a blanket, lounge with friends and unwind while enjoying the sounds of summer underneath the stars. Statesboro has plans to savor the warm weather nights with Downtown Live, an outdoor summer-long concert series that brings the downtown area to life with performances in front of the courthouse. Musical acts including Dukes of Country, the Swingin’ Medallions, Cole Goodwin and others will serenade concertgoers with the sweet sounds of an unforgettable summer. Downtown restaurants and food trucks will be open throughout the concerts, serving up savory specials and drinks on the go for patrons to elevate their concert experience with a bite to eat and a refreshing sip. All concerts are free and family friendly, so bring your crew and get to groovin’ all summer long.

Beat the heat

When you’ve spent a little too much time in the sun, a break from the heat is just what you need — but spending some time indoors doesn’t have to be dull.

  • Enjoy an afternoon exploring exhibits at the Georgia Southern Museum showcasing life-size replicas of ancient dinosaurs. The museum features fossils of some of the oldest marine animals and showcases the natural and cultural history of Georgia’s coastal plain.

  • The Clubhouse is a family-fun center that will keep you busy all day long. Face your competition in a head-to-head battle of laser tag, challenge high scores in the huge arcade, and see if you can beat your buddies in bowling. Then grab a bite at Spike’s Sports Grill & Bar before heading to the tracks to lay off the brakes at the Coca-Cola 125 Raceway.
  • If you’re looking to pick up a hobby this summer, Southern Pottery is the perfect place to immerse yourself in a vibrant, creative atmosphere. Decorate your own pottery, plan a painting party, or take a class at the studio in clay building, wood crafts or glass fusing. The possibilities are endless!

Out with a bang

It is truly the southern hospitality and charm of Statesboro that make summer here time well spent. Guests and locals will come together on June 29 for the annual Firecracker Fest hosted at Mill Creek Regional Park. Festivities begin with kids’ activities and contests, followed by live music, concessions and more. The evening wraps up with a dazzling display of fireworks, so bring a blanket and chairs to settle in for the show.

Whether you’re looking forward to some long-awaited rest and relaxation or lively days of nonstop adventure, Statesboro is the perfect place to make the most of the solstice season. With live music, thrill-seeking adventures and endless outdoor activities, grab your sunglasses and your sunscreen and get ready to make this summer one to remember.
