A rodeo that gives back

This weekend isn’t just about high-flying cowboys and bucking broncs; it’s about making a difference. Since 2011, the Statesboro Kiwanis Rodeo has been one of the major fundraisers for the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro.

“What people often don’t realize is that this rodeo isn’t just an amazing event; it supports numerous causes in our region,” said Rodeo Co-Chair Jenni Kight. “Every dollar that we raise is given right back to the community. When you buy a ticket, you’re supporting local schools, charities, children’s music programs, scholarships and senior initiatives.”

Danny Hedrick of Hedrick Rodeo Company shares why Statesboro is a favorite stop for the rodeo pros.

“I’ve been working this rodeo since it began 14 years ago, and its success comes from the incredible support of the community,” Hedrick said. “This past year, we were able to add a third show, making the event a three-day affair, and we could not be more excited about continuing that this year.

“When I talk to the talent, everyone tells me that Statesboro is one of their favorite rodeos because the people are so welcoming and make us feel at home,” he continued. “We can’t wait to see new and familiar faces at this year’s Statesboro Kiwanis Rodeo.”

Can’t-miss events

From edge-of-your-seat competition to hilarious crowd games, here’s what’s in store:

• Bull riding — Eight seconds. One rider. One massive, bucking bull. Can they hold on?

• Saddle bronc riding — Cowboys take on wild, thrashing broncs with nothing but a rope.

• Calf roping and breakaway roping — A test of speed and skill. Can they rope the calf in record time?

• Barrel racing — Lightning-fast horses and fearless riders take tight turns around the barrels.

• Team roping — Two riders, one steer and a whole lot of teamwork.

• Specialty act — Past rodeos had flaming trick riding and world-class roping acts, and this year’s show is set to be just as jaw-dropping.

Join in on the fun

The Statesboro Kiwanis Rodeo isn’t just for spectators — you can get in on the action, too, as part of a fun lineup of activities that invite the audience to participate:

• Wheelbarrow race — Blindfolded teammates plus a wobbly wheelbarrow equals pure comedy.

• Calf scramble — Kids, this one’s for you. Chase down a calf and grab the ribbon for a special prize.

• Meet the stars — Snap a photo and grab an autograph from your favorite riders after the show.
