Tucked just behind our welcome center on South Main Street is a multi-use facility that officially opened in the spring last year. When originally purchased, the 7,500 square foot warehouse was completely overgrown and packed from floor to ceiling with old furniture and debris. Thanks to the vision of the leadership at Visit Statesboro, this space is now a popular event venue and the home of the Statesboro Main Street Farmers Market.
The Market at Visit Statesboro showcases tourism’s impact on economic development and has already garnered statewide recognition. During the 2023 Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Leadership Luncheon in February, Visit Statesboro received a travelblazers award from Georgia Trend Magazine. This award recognizes community destination development projects exemplifying multi-partner collaboration and creative product development that celebrates unique initiatives contributing to local tourism assets and attractions.
The next phase of this project has been to add a footbridge and boardwalk allowing access to the Willie McTell Trail. Beginning in April and running through November, downtown residents and Georgia Southern students will be able to shop the Saturday Farmers Markets without ever starting their cars! The cultivated greenspace and newly-added picnic area will be ideal for people to enjoy breakfast and coffee from vendors while also giving children space to play as parents browse fresh vegetables, prepared foods and locally-made products. We invite you to join us for opening day on April 1 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and don’t forget your four-legged family members. Leashes or strollers are required, and you can cross the bridge and be at the Downtown Dog park in less than a minute!
